The Endocrine Society announced its support for Representative Carolyn McCarthy's (D-NY) Food Marketing in Schools Assessment Act (H.R 3625). The bill, which was first introduced in July 2007, calls for an in-depth study of the nutritional value of foods and drinks marketed in middle and high schools, as well as the vehicles advertisers use to reach young consumers in our nation's schools.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that selected State agencies will receive approximately $8.5 million in grants funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to improve Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) administration and make it easier for WIC recipients to purchase nutritious foods. Vilsack made this announcement today at the national 'Healthy Kids, Healthy Future' conference in Washington, D.C.
